Trained at the St. Lucas Academy, Ghent
Dessauvage's work employs a limited range of shapes. He considers his pot shapes, cylinder, hemispheres or cones as bearers of decoration. The pots are fired as raku and burnished. Shape and finish are perfect, the decoration austere and meditative. For a foundation he uses black and orange clay and various techniques for decoration. This consists of colour, scored lines or holes, gold and sometimes treatment of the surface of the pot by local heating.
