Johan van Loon

1934, Rotterdam

1952-1956, Institute for Applied Art, department of textiles (later the Gerrit Rietveld Academy). Since 1958 he has received lesson in ceramics and has been increasingly focusing on ceramics.
Van Loon's work cannot be put in a single category. He works with porcelain as well as stoneware, throws as well as casts, and builds up forms from slabs of clay. He uses colour and the imprint of other materials, such as textile for decoration. Johan van Loon is continually searching for new vehicles of expression.
