Willem Heesen

1925-2007

A CV of Willem Heesen is virtually a short history of glass making in the Netherlands in the second half of the twentieth century. He was trained at the Glass School in Leerdam. His instructor was Andries Copier, a name that scarcely requires an introduction. The work of Willem Heesen, the vases and dishes, the abstract objects and the flat glass panels always refer back to nature. The landscape surrounding the River Linge, the mystery of water-borne life were interpreted by Heesen poetically right through his oeuvre.
